Character Dice Rolls
Every action that your character can attempt that has a chance of failing should require rolling the dice. Most actions, such as Combat, Abilities, Saving Throws, and Skills, require the roll of a d20, but there are a few exceptions. For nearly all d20 rolls, the higher number rolled the better. Using your character's Attributes requires you to roll a d12 and, in this case, the lower number the better. Rolling for Damage (from a weapon) varies depending on the weapon used, but you typically want higher numbers rolled against an opponent and lower numbers rolled against your character. Gifts, Talents, and Crafts are all part of Skills, which fall under Skill rolls. They are successful in the same way Ability rolls and Saving Throws are (the higher the better). The following is a list of the commonly used rolls and the dice required. You can find more details about these rolls in the following sections, but for now, the Common Dice Rolls table would be a good thing to familiarize yourself with before beginning. Common Dice Rolls | Attribute rolls: | d12 (low) | Ability rolls: | d20 (high) | Combat rolls: | d20 (high) | Skill rolls: | d20 (high) | Saving Throws: | d20 (high) |
(low) indicates that the lower the roll, the better because the player must roll under a target number (high) indicates that the higher the roll, the better because the player must roll over a target number |
