Basic Principles
Holy Lands RPG, as a game, requires knowledge of the basic rules, a Holy Lands Character Sheet, some gaming dice, a friend or two, and your imagination. This website helps you to know the rules of game play; many of which will come easily and naturally once you read them, and some you will have to reference often or as they are needed. The Character Sheets allow players to create their PC's who will be the heroes of the story that another player, called the Raconteur (storyteller) will create. A good shake of the dice and one's imagination are what determine how the PC's follow the paths of the story. If there is a single objective to Holy Lands, it is to have fun. No one ever actually wins or loses in this game because there is no overall final goal, so winning and losing in a game is only relative to your view of success and failure. As stories unfold, there may be an objective to the Raconteur's current story, which is called an adventure. In an adventure, the characters may have to rescue someone, save a Holy Item from evil sorcerers, or defend a town from a demonic attack, which can be considered the adventure's objective, but a new adventure usually continues after that, and another one after that. Soon enough, the same characters, along with the storyteller's creative building, have developed quite an in-depth story through a series of adventures. A series of adventures is known as a campaign, where all the previous, ongoing, and future adventures tie in together to create a comprehensive arrangement of well-developed story elements, including, cities, forests, events, people, maps, villains, and political intrigue. |
