What is a Rac

The Raconteur (pronounced rack-ON-ter, or Rac for short) has a job to be a witty storyteller who designs and leads the adventures. The Raconteur does not play a single character like the other players, but plays every character and event outside of the players' control (other characters in a campaign adventure that are not PC's are known as NPC's or Narrated Personality Characters (because the Rac narrates their personalities and actions).

The Raconteur also must create a story around your character's actions based on how you play your character. The Rac must first prepare a baseline story for the characters to begin in, and then the Rac modifies the story (often very much) as the characters begin to move through it. Depending on how the players play, the story sometimes ends up very different from how the Rac first intended.

As an adventure unfolds, the Raconteur is typically the only one of the group who knows what may happen next. It is the Rac's job to keep the players on their toes. He or she also has the difficult task of keeping the game honorable, but that does not mean that the Rac has to keep the players honorable, which is the players' own responsibility. It does mean that, to the best of their ability, the overall story should be glorifying to God.

The Raconteur should have a good, working knowledge of the basic game system, but more importantly, the Rac should have a well-thought-out story before beginning. With knowledge of only the basic rules and a creative storyline, the Rac can create a great adventure for the players. The rules are here as a comprehensive reference companion for the players and the Rac alike to grow with in their adventures.

The outline of an adventure can be as elaborate or as simple as the Rac desires. It is up to them as to how much problem solving or Combat will be involved in each adventure. Although the majority of the adventure's creation is the Rac's responsibility, it may be helpful to invite constructive insight from the players to make the game or future games as enjoyable as possible.
